Recently we posted a review of the Oreck Orbiter, a multi-purpose machine that dry cleans carpets, as well as has a multitude of uses on hard surface flooring. During our research for this review, we ran across mention of the Capture brand several times.
Apparently, this brand has been around for quite some time, but this is the first we had heard of it. Our curiosity was sufficiently peaked, so we took a look into it…
There are several carpet cleaning products from this manufacturer:
- Deep Cleaning Powder: This powder comes in various sizes, from a one pound shaker container all the way up to an eight pound pail.
- Soil Release Pre-Mist: Available in an 18 oz. or 24 oz. spray bottle, this liquid spray is used to pretreat stains.
- Spot Eliminator: This is a 16 oz. aerosol spray for treatment of grease and oil-based stains.
- Pet Stain & Odor Cleaner: Powder forumla specifically suited to tackle pet stains and odors.
- Pet Stain & Odor Neutralizer: The name says it all, but this is a spray for treating problematic stains and odors, particularly those caused by our furry family members.
Capture also has a liquid detergent for use in steam cleaners.
Anyway, we know there are times when you might need to freshen up your carpet, but you just don’t have the time to use your steam cleaner, as well as wait for your carpets to dry. This is where the Capture Dry Carpet Cleaner comes in…
The powder is sprinkled on carpets, where it works to grab on to stain particles. After application, the powder and it stain “prisoners” are vacuumed up into the sweeper. You will need to have a strong suction vacuum sweeper for this chore, but it’s a great way to freshen up carpeted surfaces in between steam cleanings.
Apparently, many people that own the Oreck Orbiter love this product, and use it as a substitute for the Oreck brand, using their Orbiter to work it into carpet fibers, and then following up with a thorough vacuuming. The Capture product is less expensive than the Oreck dry carpet cleaners, and is more readily available, as it is sold in several home improvement stores.
If you have used the Capture Carpet Cleaner products, either with or without the Oreck Orbiter, we would love to hear your comments and opinions regarding them. If you have time, leave us a quick note below…

FYI….The oreck dry cleaning compound that you’re speaking of IS Capture. It’s just simply re-labled, that’s all. No Difference at all. Again, it is the same product. And a Great one too I might add.
Hi Rich, Thanks for the information!
I have been using Capture to keep my carpet clean and fresh for the last nine years. The salesperson who sold us our carpeting suggested it. It does an outstanding job! I have used the powder alone when the carpet needs to be freshened up and I have used the pre-mist and the powder together for tougher areas and when I want a deeper clean. All it takes is a light hand with the product (don’t need alot.) It is amazing how well it cleans even my high traffic areas. It brings my carpet back to life. I have yet to encounter a stain that Capture has not been able to remove. And the carpet stays dry! I have recommended Capture to family and friends without hesitation and those who have tried it are also very pleased with the results. I really can’t emphasize enough how well this stuff works. Love it!
Dry Carpet Cleaning. Punctual, friendly and professional service. Sydney metro area.
I owned a carpet cleaner company, I use cheaper ways to clean up carpet to my customer but effective. I used Capture on my own use especially on my carpet. It was more effective and less time.
I really love using this stuff.
I have two large dogs, hardwood floors and wool rugs. I use this once a month on my rugs and there is no lingering dog odor. It is incredible on stains, even old ones. Once when I was house-training my last dog, she had an accident on a jute rug – Capture removed the stain and odor completely. Great stuff and it’s non-toxic which is important for my furchildren.
I have been using Capture for probably ten years. It works great. You just shake out enough to cover the stain or area, I rub it in gently with a brush, wait a little while and then vacuum it up. I have a rental property in Florida and I actually keep a pail of this under the sink. I tell my renters that it is under there just in case they have a spill. It is so easy to use that they don’t mind cleaning up their spill which sure helps to keep my carpets looking good for all the renters. I also use it on the sofa and chairs.
