If you have hardwood floors in your home, you will probably agree that the old-fashioned methods of cleaning them can be a bit tedious.
A wood floor steam cleaner may be the answer. It can not only reduce the time necessary to complete this cumbersome chore, but it many cases, it’s also a more effective method.
However, before you go shopping for one, there are a few things that you should keep in mind:
1. Even with steam cleaning, you will still need to first vacuum. If you use a vacuum, make sure that it’s safe to use on wood floors. If it has an adjustable beater bar, raise it, or if you have a bare floor attachment, use it.
2. Steam is made of water, and water can be especially destructive to hardwood flooring. Although several steam cleaners on the market can be used on hard flooring surfaces, not all of them are suitable for use on wood.
3. When you do select a wood floor steam cleaner, make sure you use it on sealed flooring surfaces only. Using water-based cleaning techniques on unsealed wood floors will cause damage, including blackening the surface and causing the grain on the floor to buckle or rise.
Many of the steam mops on the market are perfect for this task, and they won’t take up much room in the closet. We have reviewed several models here, and we encourage you to take a look at them.
