How Does the Bissell Flip-It Work?
The Flip-It design is unique, in that it can be used as both a dry vacuum sweeper as well as a wet mop, with literally a flip of the machine. When used as a dry vacuum, the machine collects dry dirt, crumbs, and debris. To switch to wet cleaning, flip the unit around and squeeze the trigger to dispense water and cleaner through the brush or pad. The spray trigger should be squeezed on the forward stroke, and then released on the reverse stroke, so that the squeegee will work with the suction to dry the floor.
To use the built in heating unit in the Bissell Flip-It 7340, push the power switch down to turn on the heater. It takes approximately thirty seconds to heat the water and solution 25 degrees warmer. To use wet cleaning without the heater, simply leave the power switch in the up position.

The Bissell Flip-It cleaners have two water tanks. The top one is the clean water tank, where the water and cleaning solution are added. The bottom one is the dirty water tank, which collects both the dry debris during the dry vacuum process, as well as the dirty water during the wet cleaning process. The machine will make a noticeable sound and suction will stop when bottom dirty tank is full.
The machine comes with both a Gentle Clean brush and a Gentle Clean pad. The brush is ideal for use on tile, vinyl, and hard floor surfaces with grout or crevices. The pad is designed for use on more delicate surfaces, such as sealed hardwood and laminates.
Caring for the Bissell Flip-It
The unit is easy to maintain. The dirty tank should be removed and emptied as needed during cleaning. It should also be rinsed before storing. The pleated filter located on top of the dirty tank should be removed. Any dirt and debris collected in the filter should be tapped out. The filter can also be rinsed under water, but then should be allowed to air dry before being reinstalled in the unit.
The Gentle Clean brush can be rinsed under warm water. The Gentle Clean pad is machine washable. The nozzle can also be removed and rinsed. Any water and formula in the upper clean tank can remain in the unit when stored. Any wet cleaning pads or brushes should be removed before storing.
Bissell Flip-It Review
The Bissell Flip-It is a handy tool, although it is more effective at mopping than it is at vacuuming. If you want to use it for light duty vacuuming on your hard surface flooring, it should do an adequate job. However, if you have a week’s worth of toddler crumbs and pet hair to pick up, use your regular vacuum first, then follow up with the Bissell Flip-It using the wet cleaning feature.
The machine cleans up easily, and it’s nice that it can be stored with the cleaning solution in the upper tank, so that it is ready to go at a moment’s notice.
