Rug Doctor Mighty Pro Plus: Weighing in at 36 lbs., the Mighty Pro Plus retails for $649.85. Features include an adjustable handle, 2.6 gallon solution tank, 3.1 gallon recovery tank, and twelve foot hose.
Rug Doctor Wide Track: The 44 pound Wide Track has a suggested retail price of $799.45. It costs more than the Mighty Pro because it has a 34% wider cleaning path and larger water tanks – the solution tank holds 3.7 gallons and the recovery tank is 4.8 gallons.
Here are even more details regarding the features of these Rug Doctors…
- 1.9 HP Motor: The strong motor gives these machines the power they need to suction dirt and water from carpeted surfaces.
- Vibrating Brush: The vibrating brush on these machines move back and forth to help remove dirt and grime from carpets, as well as lift and fluff carpet fibers. The brush on the Mighty Pro Plus model is 9.25 inches in length, and the Wide Track brush is two inches longer, at 11.25 inches.
- Large Capacity Water Tanks: No need for frequent trips to the sink. Both models have two water tanks. The bottom tank is for the cleaning solution, and the upper tank is for the dirty water that is suctioned from carpets. As stated before, the Mighty Pro Plus has a 2.6 gallon tank for the cleaning solution and a 3.1 gallon recovery tank. The Wide Track model has a 3.7 gallon cleaning solution tank, and a 4.8 gallon recovery tank.
- Hand Tool & 12 Foot Hose: Both models have an amply sized twelve foot hose, as well as universal hand tool, which allows you to clean stairs, upholstery, car interiors, and other similar areas. You can even use the Rug Doctor to deep clean certain types of mattresses.
Using the Rug Doctor for Carpet Cleaning
The Mighty Pro Plus and Wide Track operate the same as their rental counterparts. However, here is a quick overview of how to use them:
First, hot water and cleaning solution will need to be added to the bottom tank. The recovery tank sits on top of the stationary bottom tank, and will need to removed. Mix the hot water and cleaning solution in a clean bucket, and then pour into the bottom clean water tank. Then, reinstall the top recovery tank.
Plug in the machine, make sure it is set to carpet cleaning, and then turn it on. The machine uses a backward cleaning pass, and sprays the cleaning solution, brushes the carpet, and vacuums all at the same time. To start this process, press the red button on the handle. Pull the carpet cleaner slowly backward in a straight line, releasing the trigger approximately twelve inches before ending the cleaning pass.
Continue these backward passes, tilting the machine back and pushing it forward between backward cleaning passes.
As is, you cannot use either the Mighty Pro Plus or the Wide Track for cleaning hard flooring surfaces. However, by purchasing the optional Floor Doctor accessory for $79.95, you can use the machine for cleaning tile, linoleum, concrete and other sealed, water-safe hard flooring surfaces.
There is also a twelve foot hose and hand tool for cleaning upholstery, stairs, and more. To use, you will need to set the machine to the Upholstery/Hand Tool setting.
When finished, you will need to empty and rinse the upper recovery tank. You will also need to empty the clean water tank. Since the bottom tank is not removable, this step is a little tricky. However, just follow the manufacturer’s directions. Basically, you will need to take outside or to a shower stall or bath tub. You will need to turn the switch to Upholstery/Hand Tool and press the handle button to spray the remaining water from the tank.
The Rug Doctor Mighty Pro Plus and Wide Track are both solid machines that come with a five year manufacturer’s warranty.

The Rug Doctor is not a steam cleaner. Rug Doctor actively and fraudulently misleads customers in this regard. Don’t be fooled by these hucksters.
Yes, the Rug Doctor IS a steam cleaner and works wonderfully. I bought one recently at Costco and just love it. Mine came with the upholstery attachment and I just finished STEAM CLEANING my couches. What a joy to see the stains disappear as I used the upholstery device. I’ve always rented from the stores, but just got tired of doing that (and not knowing where it had been before or if people properly cleaned it) so I decided to buy one for myself being it was such a good price. I’ve used Rug Doctor for years and love the performance of this machine.
Sorry, this really isn’t a steam cleaner. It sprays out warm or hot (whichever temp water you put in) and shampoo. It’s even BETTER than a steam cleaner because of the brush and cleaner. A real steam cleaner just uses hot steam, no shampoo, and sometimes suction. The Rug Doctor is a carpet SHAMPOO-ER and scrubber and vaccuumer at the same time. It’s the real deal.
The Rug Doctor is not a steam cleaner and the company doesn’t claim that it’s a steam cleaner. I just bought one and it does a fantastic job of cleaning my carpets. The Rug Doctor Instruction Guide clearly states “Hot-Water Extraction Carpet Cleaning Machine”. Uses hot water and carpet cleaning solution to spray, agitate, and vacuum in each pull backwards. It is a bit heavy to pull but it’s good exercise and you get a clean carpet. Works much better then the Hoover and Bissel’s I have owned.
There is no such thing as a “steam cleaner” they are all hot water extraction units.
Seariously people, do your homework before you make yourself look like a fool on these web sites! Steam cleaning is an industry tearm, just like Dry Cleaning which isn’t actually a dry process. Don’t you think a company as large as Rug Doctor would make sure they legally market and advertise!!! Besides, the only time they advertise STEAM any where is their commercials that say “steaming mad at dirt!”. If you knew anything about cleaning carpets you’d know that actually using steam on your carpet fibers is HUGE no no, they’re just like clothing fibers, it causes the carpet to fade, shrink and even undo any fiber particles that are held together!
In my current house, I have bought 3 Bissels and 1 Hoover rug shampooers, over the last 12 years. They all worked OK for about three rug cleanings but after that their effectiveness dropped like a rock. No matter how well you cleaned them they became useless. Started renting the Rug Doctor and they worked wonders. Strong vacumm and very effective cleaning. The rental units have an hour timer on them and some that had over 750 hours still worked like a champ.
The retail is $699. Costco had them for $474. Been tempted but when Costco Online had a $75 off offer with free shipping, I jumped at it. Love it, we have two messy dogs and a cat. A good carpet cleaner is a must.Rug Doctor rules. There is no real competitor.
Love my Rug Doctor. Works very well. I purchased it to replace a Bissel about 9 months ago.
Had my first problem with it this weekend. It appears as though the pump may have quit, so it is at the shop right now; however it is under warranty so hopefully it won’t cost me anything.
One thing I was told is that Oxy Clean products tend to eat the pumps, even though Rug Doctor markets that product.
Ok, so as I mentioned back in October, I dropped my RD off at a shop because the pump had quit. They told me that was the problem and would fix it as soon as possible. I have called multiple times and they keep telling me that the pump is on back order. I don’t know if that is true or if they have an issue with RD and can’t get parts. It has been three months and I’m getting a little impatient.
I too have had the Rug Doctor for a while now. I loved my 20 year old Bissell cleaner (glorified shop vac type) I could extract the water. I had a Hoover something..Left the rug WET.
The Rug Doctor extracts the water well. Lifting with ever so little effort, assists in it removing so much more.
If any of you who complain this is not a STEAM Cleaner…It is not. You are not supposed to be using STEAM on your carpets. It’s not good for the backing. You are to use heated water…That’s what this is.
Without spending thousands, this is a very good machine. I am very pleased.
I just saw the rug doctor at Walmart for 398.00…that is the cheapest around….as soon as my hoover dies, that’s where I am goin…..hope this helps for anyone who is lookin for one cheap….it’s brand new, not reconditioned !!!
The one at Walmart does not come with the stair attachment and cleaner kit….
We bought the Rug Doctor Machine with upholstery and floor mop attachments. I thought I would only use it once in a while – for carpets. But when I found out how fantastic the floors come clean with the floor mop – it gets used every week to wash all the floors. The rugs are maintained, the furniture looks brand new, the upholstery in the cars looks like brand new (they are over ten years). This is a very well built unit that does a fabulous job at cleaning. I love it. It has saved me from getting down on hands and knees to wash floors – and it does a better job than I could ever do. To the manufacturers of this product – I thank you for making such a fantastic product. It is excellent! If you buy it – make sure you buy it with the floor mop! Then you will use it every week!
I have a Hoover steamvac, which cleans away the spots quite well, but three weeks later the spots are back. I used a Rug Doctor yesterday, and what an amazing piece of equipment. It has so much more suction power. The carpet looks great. Call it what you want, but this machine just does an amazing job, and REALLY gets out the dirt. I want to bury my Hoover now and buy the REAL thing, a genuine RUG DOCTOR.
I’m a International Cleaning Contractor with foreign investors.
One of our investors purchased directly from official website http://www.rugdoctor.com for $599.93 After 1 week I’ve seen the same unit at Wallmart.com for $398.00 with free shipping to store.
We contacted customer support multiple times by email and phone and finally after 2 months we received an email telling us that they can not help us and will not price match. Investor is no Authorized Reseller and there is no Waranty on the equipment “you are not authorized to represent us or resell our product without written contact”.
Customer Support treated us like dirt on the rug.
Even if the machine is working and doing it’s thing, I think they can do better when we as customer needs support.
We got contracts for 10.000 sq ft carpet cleaning a week and tried to go with Rug Doctor. But how we were treated: No more Rug Doctor for us.
We’ll move on to another supplier for equipment and chemicals.
As all of us contractors knows: it’s not the one time investment of the equipment that brings the cost up, but the usage of the chemicals.
Bye Bye Rug Doctor
ps hope that this get posted
we have either cleaned our home carpets or had a commercial service do it three to four times a year for 30 years. we have owned bissel, sears, and other cleaners and have used several of the commercial services. we have been renting rug doctor units the past five to seven years but occasionally have substituted with commercial services in that time when the carpets were particularly bad because of our dogs or dirt from construction. nothing has ever matched our results with rug doctor, so we bought our own unit. its no contest.
