The Oreck Steam-It: More Than Just a Steam Mop

The Oreck Steam-It may be a little more pricier than other popular steam mops on the market, but it has a few extra features that make the extra cost well worth it.  Most notably, it has a pressurized vapor chamber, so you can even use it upside down without encountering leaks.  After all, those ceiling fixtures and crown moldings need cleaned once in a while too!

Oreck Steam-ItThe Oreck Steam-it uses the power of steam, instead of harsh chemicals, to get your floors (and other areas of your home) squeaky clean.  It can be used on most flooring surfaces, including marble, ceramic tile, stone, vinyl, linoleum, sealed hardwood floors, and even carpets and rugs.

It has a generous 16 foot cord, and takes only thirty seconds to heat the water in its one liter tank.  The steam literally melts away dirt and grime, without the use of harsh cleansers.  Once melted, the residue is picked up with the attached pad or bonnet, or with the wipe of an absorbent cloth.  The steam is also hot enough to eliminate harmful bacteria, including e-coli, staph and salmonella.

The Oreck Steam Mop comes with two reusable microfiber pads and two bonnets.  The pads and bonnets are machine washable.  It also comes with cleaning clips, which allow you to connect your own terry cloth or household towels to the mop head – a nice money-saving feature that we really like!

It also has six different attachments, which give you the capability to clean more than just your floors.  Using the included tools, you can steam clean your windows, kitchen and bathroom counters and sinks, appliances, upholstery and drapes, light fixtures, crown moldings and baseboards, and even your mattresses and pillows.

The Oreck Steam-It retails for right around $170.00 and includes a one year warranty.  If you buy it, make sure you carefully review the warranty details.  The warranty does not cover if the machine is ruined by mineral deposits.  This means you will want to use filtered or distilled water, instead of tap water, especially if the water in your area is considered hard.

  1. Rose McDuffie says:

Does the steam-it have a swivel head? And how long does the one-liter tank clean for? 15 minutes? Does the steam-it leave water on the floor like the H2O? I have one of those and I am NOT impressed with it! I would really like to own a steam floor cleaner but I am hesitant to purchase another one. I have my oreck vacuum cleaner and am well satisfied.

  2. Paula says:

Thank you Rose, I have the same questions. These issues are never covered in steam mop reviews. How long does the one-liter tank clean for? Dose it leave water on the floor? These are very good questions.

  3. komartin says:

I bought the oreck steam-it and returned it. I needed an effective steamer to clean my tile, carpet, and upholstery. The steam-it wand did not fit the bill. The stains did not lift on either surface – I do not recommend this product if you have existing stains. I tried this on wax stains, pet stains, and tile and grout cleaning, with negative results. If you have light household cleaning to do, then maybe this product would help. This is the LAST time I see a product on TV and blindly purchase it! To answer your questions, the steam-it does have a swivel head (interchangeable attachments) and it is a “dry” steam… saying that, it still leaves moisture on the surface. The one liter tank lasts longer than I expected… I would say about 30-45 minutes of prolonged use although I do not recommend using it continuously.

The one good thing about it is that Oreck offers a 30 day risk-free trial. I paid $15 for it and opted for financing and received it immediately, within 3 days. If you do not like it, they provide you a shipping label to return it to them and they will refund you your money. They made it extremely easy to return (although I have yet to receive my $15 back from my initial purchase). The bottom line is that it most emphatically did not work for me, but since it is so easy to order and return, maybe it will work differently for your cleaning needs, as long as they are for regular cleaning and not stain removal. I hope this helped you!

  4. Rita says:

I noticed your review states that the Oreck Steam-it works on carpets and rugs. The Oreck ads to not include carpets and rugs. Please verify.

  5. Dawn says:

The Oreck Steam-It does include a carpet glider attachment. In my opinion, it’s more suited for “freshening” up carpet than for deep cleaning it. Of course, I have two boys and a dog, so for someone without kids and pets at home, it may do the job. There is also an attachment with pegs that can be used to comb and rejuvenate the carpet.

To answer the questions about the water tank – it lasts a very long time. I can’t give an exact time frame, because I have never actually had to refill it. I always end up having some water left that needs emptied. As komartin mentioned, it is a dry steam that is almost immediately dry.

  6. Linda says:

in the tv ad, it shows the Oreck steamer being used to clean inside the oven–supposedly blasting away stuck on oven gunk inside and the racks. Does this REALLY work well? How about using it to clean window blinds?

  7. Michele says:

I purchased the Oreck Steam-It about a week ago and have been very pleased with its performance. My intent on the purchase was to clean the tile, and specifically the grout, in my house. My tile/grout are 10 years old, and with kids and pets have gotten very dark even with regular cleaning. I have so far cleaned the grout on my kitchen floor and couldn’t be happier with the result. My grout looks like it did the day I had my floors tiled. The Steam-It actually did a better job than the “professionals” I had come in several years ago to clean and seal the floor. The mop comes with a grout attachment and 2 replacement tops for the attachment. I am hoping I am able to purchase more replacement tops as they did get worn down quickly.

  8. janet says:

does anyone know if this one is better than the latest Shark Steamer?

From what I read, this one holds twice the water, but the Shark has a longer cord 16 vs 30 Ft.
This one is weighs more than the Shark as well.
The Shark has less accessories and pretty much only works on floors.
They apparently both take only 30 sec to heat up.

Anyone know which one actually works better?

    Thanks!

  9. Aaron says:

Reading about the shark steamer one person said it’s very hard to push along floors. Is that the same way the Oreck would be too, or is it easier to move along the floors?

  10. Kelly says:

I love my Oreck Steam-It It’s so easy to use. We just purchased a new house and it was great for all of that cleaning before moving in! We cleaned everything from appliances to hardwoods to the bathtub. I couldn’t be more pleased!

  11. C Austin says:

Be carefull if you plan to order this product that you have double the cost to spare for a week or two while they play with authorizations. They don’t tell you this so watch out. I don’t care how well it works. The company business practices don’t work for me.

  12. bnvog says:

I was ready to purchase this product, as I have had one of their vacume now for over a year and just love it. I love that it’s light, I love the pick up it has, and I love the long cord it has, I wish I would have purchased a while ago. But, as the person C Austin says I am trying to pay off the vacume that I put on their hsbc year free interest card. I am getting terrible service, have been placed on hold for 20minutes the three times I have phoned to speak with someone. I doesn’t make sense to me, I’m trying to pay off a card and they are no help, go figure, I am placing a complaint to the better business bureau in regards to hsbc, don’t use their credit company, pay on another card or cash.

  13. JC Townly says:

These reviews have been very helpful as I’ve been looking at Steam product reviews. I recently purchased an Oreck Vac and am happy with it. @bnvog….not sure if this changes things, but it looks like Oreck switched from HSBC to GE Money for financing.(that’s what I purchased my vac with)

  14. JMO says:

I just got the oreck steam wand and it works great for tile floors, decent on hardwood floors only because it is hard to push, and it did nothing for my carpets or tile. I think if anyone is looking for a great floor steamer this is it but it is way to heavy to use on anything other than the floor (at least for me).

  15. lyn says:

I bought the steamer in December. The attachments are hard to use. I wish I had done more research. I would not have bought this product.I’ve had cheaper steamers that do alot other jobs this steamer is supposed to do.

  16. patti says:

hey,,,I do deep cleaning of apts… do you reccomend this steam cleaner…the oven are so filty and grimey! ty!

  17. Scott says:

I am sold on the Oreck products, as I have had a vacuum for almost five years and love it. I am looking for something that can clean my tile. However, I would also like something that would clean around the toilet. Has anyone had any experience with this?

  18. Dave says:

I love my Steam it. Bought it from a store, had a full working knowledge of the machine before I even used it!!! I have cleaned toilets, floors, oven, freshened beds and carpets. It is a machine designed to help with maintenance. If your floors are so dirty that this will not clean them…maybe you should reevaluate your lifestyle.

  19. ANN GOODWIN says:

I WANT TO ORDER THE ORECK STEAM CLEANER I SAW ON TELEVISION
I CAN’T FIND WHER TO ORDER ON LINE.PLEASE GIVE ME PHONE NO. I CAN CALL AT NIGHT.I REALLY WANT ONE A.G.

  20. Mr. Davidson says:

This item does NOT glide easily on the floors, and does not swivel behind toilets, it’s too bulky. On the slide back, the head wobbles, does not slide back as easy as it slides forward. IT IS HEAVY! I love Oreck! But not THIS product. I’ll wait til the next version. For now, the Steam Shark will have to do.

  21. c whyte says:

for my cleaning purposes…the oreck steam-it…is it!!!
the old ceramic tile in our upstairs bath was so bad even before we moved in 15 years ago…i tried everything to make it presentable…the oreck steam it made it shine. because it was so bad i didn’t expect the grout to look new (and it doesn’t) but it’s the best it’s ever been.
the wood floors in the rest of the house turned out fantastic. in fact, two days after using the steam it on them, my daughter-in-law said, “i never really noticed how pretty your wood floors were before” thing is she had no idea they were just steamed two days earlier…
the sliding shower doors, i had to take out in order to do the inside of them (and the shower/tub itself) but i’m not complaining about the job it did. sure it was a little bulky/cumbersome but the results were what i was after.
i’m looking forward to using it in many other ways…but i’m sold.
by the way, we got ours on e-bay!

  22. Danielle W. says:

I purchased the Steam-It steamer by Oreck about a month ago. I used it for 2 days and I knew it was going back to Oreck.

First, I have to say Oreck is a great company with great products and they DO stand behind them. I did not have any hassles returning the Steam-It after using it since Oreck offers a 30 day in-home trial.

The steamer…just not what it says or what I expected.

Day 1: I first used it on my shower doors. I found the machine a little awkward to use in the shower stall so I really couldn’t get everything I wanted in the shower. Now, my doors aren’t caked with soap scum but they were dirty and needed a wash. Well, the steamer didn’t do a thing to help bust up the dirt and grime on the glass. I supposed I should have scrubbed it down first but then what is the point of using the steamer if I still would have had to use chemicals.

Day 2: My next project was the kitchen floor. It picked up some of the grime from the floor but again, I would have had to scrub my floor first, use the steamer, then wipe away the excess dirt the steamer lifted. Plus, when the steamer is on high it does get hot with a lot of steam but it seems to be more wet than anything. If you ever used a Swiffer that is the kind of wet it got. Not soaked but enough to get your socks damp if you stepped on it.

The main reason I wanted this steamer was to tackle the surfaces I don’t get to normally clean and would need a little more TLC, like the kitchen cabinets and I loved that I could have used it on my couch and even my mattress. But once you add water, any amount, the machine just becomes heavy and my arms get tired. The man at the Oreck store suggested I add less water but seriously, it is still a heavy machine to lift over your head and if there is less water that means more time I had to take to add more water when it runs out.

This is a great concept just not there yet, Oreck. I am going to stick to the chemicals for now.

  24. Agnes Olsen says:

I purchased the Oreck Steam mop and I don’t have a smooth shiny linoleum so I find it very difficult pushing the mop on my floor. I have to work very hard on it and can only manage a section at a time due to Asthma. If you have any suggestions I would appreciate it. Thank you, Agnes

  25. Gerri Walker says:

I purchased an Oreck Steam mop. I have had some difficulty and would like some suggestions. I guess I did not thoroughly read the directions before using and now have places on my no wax vinyl floor which look dull. It must have been too hot. Every time I try to use it, I just seem to get more places. Does any one know of a product I can fix this with?. Should I keep the steam turned off? I does clean well, but I cannot aford to use it any more until I am sure I won’t get any more damage, and I want to fix the damage already done. Gerri

  26. Linda says:

My friend brought over her Oreck Steam It last night for me to try. Yes, the “pull back” motion when cleaning the floor is jerky but if you turn the handle just a bit, you won’t get that. I just LOVE the full swivel.

Dawn says it didn’t clean carpets but that’s what sold me. I have a cat that pukes all over my Berber carpets and stains them. I used this steamer with the bonnet on several old spots and couldn’t believe it got them up. I was so excited at not seeing those stains.

I’ve had a Shark for a year now. It has a flimsy handle, it’s hard to push and it takes forever to use because, as one pointed out, it doesn’t steam on the “pull back” motion. And, it quit working the other night.

I cannot wait to go get my own ORECK Steam It.

  27. rymorris says:

How wide is the cleaning path on this one?

  28. Kathi says:

I ordered the Steam It the other night and wanted to thank all of you who have put up reviews. It has been very helpful. I had staph for nine months last year into this year and our water is HOT!! and I am hoping the Steam It will also help keep the bug away forever. Thanks again.

  29. gal says:

I have allergy and does this one help to clean mattress? Anyone can share experience?

  30. Helen says:

I have a Bisell steamer, which works well and check the reviews it is way better then the shark for the floors. I did just buy a seperate shark multicleaning device and it works well for the other tasks you want to steam, bathroom, kitchen etc.

  31. Mark says:

I just picked one up today at an Oreck store. I haven’t used it yet so I don’t have an opinion on ease of use. The salesperson demonstrated it for me and I was impressed with all the functions.

I will say that this is replacing a Shark Steamer. I have had 2 Sharks over the past 2 years. They have both quit working after about 9 to 12 months of use. We use it regularly as we have kids that seem to constantly make messes but for both Sharks to quit after almost a year, I found unacceptable. Both times they just quit steaming and water would come out of the base of it.

Anyway… I’ll post my review of the Oreck after I have had a chance to use it. But I can say that the Shark is great as long as you plan on regular replacement.

  32. Jill Johnson says:

I’ve had the Oreck Steam-It in a box in my garage for over a year and finally pulled it out yesterday to use it on my hardwood floors. I really liked it. There was a noticeable difference after I was done. Even after my cleaning lady comes the floors don’t look this good. I have 2 kids and a dog so I wanted something that was chemical-free. This was a good choice for the floors. I found it easy to push and pull and I did my entire downstairs of my house and still had to pour excess water out of the machine. It was very quick too. I thought I’d be locked into hours of cleaning but the timing was similar to that of vacuuming and in about one minute the floors were dry so there was instant gratification:-) One bummer is the length of the cord. It’s not nearly long enough. I was having to find other outlets in the same room just to finish the room. This was kind of annoying, especially if you don’t have multiple outlets in your rooms.

Am anxious to try this on my grout. Reading the other responses, I can see where people comment that it’s heavy. I can’t imagine trying to hold it up in the air when water is in it. I would stick to floors with this one.

  33. Kathy Spurgeon says:

I just purchased the Oreck Steam-It from my local Oreck store. It seemed very impressive in the store. I think it is heavier than most other steamers and it does NOT get up the dog slobber on my hardwood floors — the main reason for my purchase. I have 30 days to return it. Does anyone use another brand of floor steamer mop that DOES get up dog slobber?? I have five dogs and this is a constant battle in my home. Thank you!

  34. Susan Lonergan says:

I own the Oreck steamer and the Shark floor steamer. I prefer the Oreck, although heavier than the Shark, the Oreck does a better job of cleaning with fewer cleaning strokes. The Shark has the swivel head and one can use the otherside of the cleaning cloth and the cord is longer I still prefer the Oreck for it’s superior cleaning. I, in response to Kathy do not know which steamer gets dog slobber off of hardwood floors. I would like to know where I can purchase extra cleaning cloths for the Oreck?

  35. Robert Staggers says:

    Kathy s.

Same dog slobber problem, it is like glue on hardwood floors. If you find anything that works let me know!

    Bob S.

  36. Lorraine says:

Actually, I have a very large Rhodesian Ridgeback who slobbers constantly. I purchased the Oreck Steam 50 on sale for $39 and was amazed at how my hardwoods were slobber free and it is lightweight and easily fits behind toilets in your bathroom. There is a downside, however, since the cord is also short and the structure of the steamer is a bit fragile. At $39, though, I’d buy another once the warranty runs out.

  37. KJL says:

I just terminated my old housekeepers & hired a cleaning service. They use the ORECK steam it. I had the shark until it fell apart in less than a year, and really like the cleaning steam does. I have used the Oreck to “check it out” before buying it. Much more steam than the shark, and you can clean overhead without getting wet. My question here is – I was on the Oreck site and I know I saw it on sale before Christmas for about $90. Now it is back to $170. Do they run them on sale from time to time? For $90 I’m buying it. Paid that much for the shark and it fell to pieces from weekly use in 6 months.

  38. KJL says:

P.S.: I have owned a Rainbow vacuum for years. In my opinion if you want a clean house this is the ONLY vacuum to have, and they last decades. I did the 30 day trial of the Oreck vacuum, and hated it. If you don’t care if you carpets are clean, get the oreck vacuum. If you like your carpets clean, get the rainbow. You will only buy one or two rainbows for your entire life, and always have a clean house.

  39. Pam says:

I’ve owned a Haan (supposedly the favorite in Korea where they eat on their floors), which did a miserable job on my vinyl floor, and it broke within 6 months. I’ve recently purchased a Shark, but have not yet used it. QVC has what is apparently an improved version of the Oreck Steam Mop as a Today’s Special Value today. I’ve ordered it. Two things I know about Oreck and QVC – they will stand behind anything you purchase from QVC, and Oreck values their relationship with QVC. I will be returning my Shark, as they will take it back and refund it in full. They even told me they’d refund my Haan, which I purchased from them nearly 8 months ago. The Oreck they are offering today has a 25 foot cord, which is longer than the one that was on the original version, based on comments on this site. Based on the multiple things this will do, I am willing to try it. If it fails in less than a year, I know QVC will make it right. So, I will give it a try, and I will let everyone know what I think after I’ve used the one from QVC. By the way, Tom Oreck said on QVC, when asked directly, that tap water is all that is needed, as Oreck now has a brush that comes with the unit to clean away any residue left by any tap water. If you think you’d like to try this, I suggest buying it through QVC, as you will have no problems with returns, or paying it off, or any of the other payment issues I read about on this site related to Oreck. As for vacuuming, I own an older Oreck, which I will not give up, as it does clean places I cannot get to well with any other vacuum. I also own a Dyson Animal, which I will also not give up, as it is not only easy to use, but it does a great job cleaning. Whatever you buy, just remember, someone will always build “a better mouse trap” eventually. That’s the way of the world.

  40. Greg says:

After doing a good amount of research and reading a lot of great reviews, I decided on the Oreck “Steam-It” and purchased mine last Saturday from an Oreck store so I was able to see and feel first-hand how freely it moves and the weight of it. Needless to say, I got it home and put it to use on several surfaces from the ceramic tile in my kitchen, which by the way the grout was no match for it, and it glided very easily over the floor without having to do multiple passes, I was amazed. I also cleaned the windows on my back porch using the squeegee attachment and were streak-free, I just had to wipe up the squeegee now and again with a cloth to absorb the water. So far, from what I can see, this unit lives up to it’s bill but I haven’t gotten to the rest of the chores yet so I can’t say about them. I can only imagine if it works this well so far then I will be one happy camper. I can understand some folks having issues with how cumbersome it can be but with the lower handle it’s not bad at all. Solidly built, heavy duty cord and I like the “clip” features to where your not forced to purchase the “Oreck” clothes as you can use your own whether it be old terry clothes or whatever.

  41. Catherine says:

Recently purchased the Oreck Steam-Glide Mop from an Oreck store (honored the internet sale price of $79.95). Have used it twice and seems to do exactly what I need .. quickly clean our porcelain tile and marble floors. It’s lightweight and slim (nicely storable), easy to push back and forth, great swivel head, lots of quick steam with fast drying & no water spots. Even though it has a replaceable hard water filter, the salesperson suggested using distilled water. A gallon shouild last quite a while so works for me! I considered the Steam-it, but it was much more than I needed with all those attachments. Our house is never really grimy dirty with just the two of us now & no dogs or cats. Anyway, Oreck website Steam-it posts a $179.95 price, but the Oreck store sale price was $149.95 a week or so ago.
Just found out one of my friends has a Haan sweeper mop, but not sure which model. After reading some Haan reviews, I’m confident I made the right choice for my needs.

  42. Sharron Cook says:

I just purchased oreck steam mop, read in directions
not to use on laminate floors ! thats what I have I dont remember the commercial mentioning that , what damage will it cause if I use it ?

  43. Patricia Funari says:

I ordered the Steam-It from QVC for $115. I have vinyl floors. I have had a Shark for about 2 years. The Oreck is much more substantial than the flimsy Shark. I expect the Shark handle to break every time I scrub! The Oreck performed as promised. I had previously waxed my “no-wax” vinyl and thought I had stripped all of it off. Nope! The Oreck showed me where I still had wax build up. Now I know why the floor was so dirty! I expect the steam to remove the left over wax after using it a few more times. The floors look so much better now. The Oreck cleaned around the toilet very well. I had no problem with pushing it. I like that it steams pushing and pulling. The model 1000 has a 25-foot cord and a 40 oz water tank. The steam temperature is also higher than the Shark. (found that out when I decided to change the cloth immediately instead of waiting for it to cool) I usually change cloths for each room. I am well pleased.

  44. Leslie says:

I saw this mop on QVC and ran to my telephone to order. I switched from the Shark Steam Mop strictly to get away from the pumping strokes which believe me are more tiring than lifting my new Oreck Steam Mop above my shoulders to clean my sliding glass window.

Overall, I love this mop. And review readers out there, please hear this … NO NOISE!! I actually had to turn this unit over and listen to see if it was indeed on.

I have stone and marble, and tile flooring, all of which have grout. First, I just used the regular mop head on the bathroom marble floor and was truly impressed with the super fast hot steam, much better than the Shark already, I thought. Since the Oreck was new to me, I decided to attach the grout cleaning device, which by the way, comes with two (2) additional replacement grout brush heads that you just unscrew and viola! Again, I was completely satisfied and just couldn’t wait to clean the rest of my floors. I should mention that when you are cleaning grout, and I have both the sandstone and regular grout, the concentrated steam will “blow out” debris and filthy, dark, dirty residue which was no problem for this Oreck. I actually got down on my hands and knees to touch the grout to make absolutely sure that the steam didn’t melt any particles, and it was fine. Then, of course, I had to re-mop over the floor to clean where the grout dirt spit up, and was impressed once again– beautiful job! I was so proud of myself, too. I do see why Oreck included the two (2) replacement grout brush heads, because, to be honest, I wore down the brush head on my first application – perhaps it was the upright pressure of controlling the handle, lifting the cleaner, scrubbing – but hey, it beats hours of back breaking, hand scrubbing with a toothbrush any day, and really, how much could that little brush head cost to replace? Just to be safe, I will order a dozen replacement brush heads to have on hand.

As for the mop head cloth, I’ll admit it was tight, rather awkward to assemble to line up, clasp and fit. My greatest concern is how many applications you get, or with time, does it take before this cloth would shrink, tear, shrivel, or become pilled – and for this reason, I should deduct one star from my five star rating above, but, and this is a big – but – Oreck continually “listens and learns” from its customer base, and it has been my experience that improvement options are addressed and later an updated solution should be found whether it’s the cloth fabric, or larger fitted, non-shrinkable pads, whatever. Also, Oreck does advertise that “any” mop cloth could be used (not that I want to run out and buy other costly mop clothes). Again, for those of you reading this, do not misunderstand, this mop cloth works great as is, and there was plenty of room left to clamp it from both sides. I had read in another review that someone stated that the cloth spreads the debris around instead of collecting it. Well, all I have to say, is that person had a pretty dirty dusty floor to begin with, like I did, so in all fairness to my review, I must also admit that by comparison to the Shark cloth mop pad, Shark wins for dirt collection and thickness.

I have not used this mop to steam windows, countertops, cabinets or otherwise, but will get back to you when I do. I am just so pleased that it cleans and sanitizes effectively and effortlessly. It is my sincerest opinion that the Oreck Steam It Mop ranks top of class for ease, design, steam temperature, well, everything.

    Pros:
    Lightweight and sleek design.

Huge water reservoir and sturdy power cord.

    No Noise, Period!

Great traction, swivel and pivoting, especially on marble, stone and tile surface flooring.

Instant, hot steam (really!) which never dissipated, but I did refill when it became slightly under halfway.

Grateful to have such a long power cord, but it is a bit clumsy to maneuver – then again, aren’t they all?

Practically no assembly right out of the box; although easy, I found the illustrations/instructions a bit less descriptive, even confusing.

Nozzle and tools appear to be sturdy – they even provide a spill proof funnel, and I loved this!!

I love the fact that competitor brands mop cloth pads will fit this unit.

    Cons:
Mop Cloth Pad – could be more thick, absorbent, perhaps ribbed, to collect dirt particles and hair, in the end, I did have to get a wet towel and go around the baseboards, but again, I believe this is in part human error, as I truly believe that if “I” was a little more diligent in mopping in the first place, the extra dust and dirt wouldn’t be so evident, ;) – bigger question, will it shrink down and become thinner after multiple washes?

Confusing Illustration/Instruction Booklet – maybe because the clamp/clasp was a different attachment method. As above, except I found the illustrations/instructions a bit less descriptive, even confusing.

  45. Lindy says:

I did all the research and was so excited when I decided on the Oreck Steam-It. Bought it from the Oreck store, brought it home and had no problems getting the mop bonnet on, filling with water, pushing or pulling BUT it leaves streaks on my tile floor. I’ve played with the steam setting, more steam/ less steam, used my own microfiber cloth, cleaned the area twice and still STREAKS on my tile. It looks dirtier thank before I cleaned it. It FEELS cleaner but looks terrible. Has anyone had this problem? If yes, how do I get it to not streak my tile? If I can’t figure anything out it’s going back no matter how good my tile floor feels. I’ve also tried the grout attachment. It does clean my white grout very well, however with 1545 square feet of tile, the 3 grout brushes will not clean it all before wearing out.

PROS: hot, hot steam; leave floors feeling very clean; large water tank
CONS: LEAVES STREAKS ON TILE FLOOR! : (

Hello, I recently purchased an oreck steamer, i used all of the attachments to see how well i thought it worked. I feel that it works well, it does the job it says it is going to do. If you are looking for a miracle to clean stuff that was neglected and has embedded dirt, its not going to work. If you use it properly it will do the job. It took the grease off of my cabinets in the kitchen, cleaned my stove, dishwasher, floor, walls. It freshened my carpets. If you have a nasty stain on your carpet then common sense would tell you to use a deep carpet cleaner machine. The oreck did freshen up my carpets as well as lift some fresh minor stains. Remember it is a steamer not a miracle worker. Sometimes you need to put a little bit of elbow grease into your cleaning. My daughter had burnt cheese that was stuck on the electric griddle.
I steamed it off with the oreck. It cleaned the grout without much effort. If your grout is disgustingly dirty, try spraying a combination of bleach and water on it. After that you can keep up with the cleaning using the oreck and chemical free. Overall i feel that it does the job it says it will do, but it is not a miracle worker. This is the second steamer I purchased, the first oreck, I give it a thumbs up.

    Hi –

I actually just found this forum after running across the Oreck Steam-it in Big Lots. They seem to have several. They are re-manufactured models, but that doesn’t bother me. The price is right for trying out – $69. I’m probably going to get one. FYI. Today is March 22, 2011.

I just purchased this machine and in my opinion it is close to a miracle worker. It removed caked on grease and stains. I agree if it is a stubborn stain it might need some chemical help the first time but then maintenance is easy. I cleaned the tile and hardwood, the grout, the shower and the cabinets and the stove door was a greasy mess and it took some degreaser but it is clean as a whistle now. I love this machine but was interested to see you should use distilled water, the manual makes no mention of this.

Hello, I have been reading the reviews here trying to decide which steam cleaner to buy. It would seem that there are several different models or versions of a particular model talked about here. I believe it would be more helpful to others to list the exact model you are giving the review about. Many thanks for all the insight and information.

I just purchased the Oreck Seam wand at Walmart for 149.00. It leaves my hardwood to wet. Itleaves my tile floors wet.I have tried anyof the attachments yet. I am doing something wrong that causes it to leave the floors so wet?
